January 7th, 2010BloggingYou probably already heard that Google started their own URL Shortening Service but, the Google URL Shortener is currently available for Google products only and not for broader consumer use.
I didn’t really get that last part, highlighted above, and didn’t really care. You see, I have my own URL shortening Service, have accounts created and obtaining API for extended statistics at both http://Bit.ly and http://cli.gs sites, have preview feature set-up for any http://tinyURL.com, and my existing sites already have a wide variety of URL shortening services available from plugins activated such as Digg Digg and the like.
HAVE YOU BEEN TO YOUR FEEDBURNER RECENTLY?
I remember setting up a bunch of new blogs back in early October 2009 and noticed that there is no more “PING” series of sites … because the “Pingshot” service just notifies all interested services when my feed changes. Before, I had to select a standard set, plus 5 additional ones and who the heck know which ones were better or not better. Honestly .. I’d rather not know!
* BUT – WHAT IS THIS NEW TAB? “SOCIALIZE” ?
There’s a new tab called “Socialize” that lets you publish to your twitter account – directly from your Feedburner account. You have to first give google authorization (OAuth”) to your twitter account and if you are familiar with http://twitterfeed.com .. the options are pretty similar. Please see the image below and, of course, check out your own Feedburner account!
By the way .. I use the
Feedburner Feedsmith pluginFeedburner Feedsmith Plugin on all my blogs and although I’m not really sure if I need it or not have been using the Full Text Feed plugin that prevents WordPress 2.1+ from adding a “more” link to my website’s feed. So far it ‘ain’t broke my wordpress upgrades to newer versions, so I haven’t stopped using both together.I AM GIVING THIS A TRYOUT
Currently, I have 93 feeds with my Twitterfeed account .. but, on my new SportsHEN blog (Which will be a front for my five new Olympic Winter Sports Blogs 2010) I have set my feedburner to be submitting my published posts to my newly created http://twitter.com/SportsHEN account.This should be interesting to see how this works!

The link to the Feedsmith plugin is broken. I noticed a while back that Feedburner took the plugin down for some strange reason. I’m guessing this one would do the trick too.
Of course I also use the Headway theme on a lot of projects these days and it has feed redirection built in so there’s no need for the plugin with it.

Thanks for the heads up on that Chris! It was working last night … quite strange.
I left the old link up just in case it starts to work again or, to see if it’s permanently removed.

I immediately adopted this idea once it was out, very prompt and easy. Of course, I need to turn off some integration plugins to avoid duplicates.
Yeah, think we’ll be having more of those days whenever a new integration service is up — turn on, off, on, off… @wchingya

One thing I am disappointed with this goo.gl “socialize” function is that although you *CAN* create multiple twitter accounts and add them to your feedburner profile, you can only select one twitter account.
The nice thing is that with twitterfeed, I have the other option. For instance.
All posts on BFH blog go to @PetLvr as a post from BFH. Simultaneously, I have the same post going by category to @Battling twitter account – all using twitterfeed. But, for the simple ones .. it should be interesting!
I chose to try this out for @SportsHEN because this blog will only be an aggregate of 5 other blogs. The individual sports blogs will be posting to @PetLvr only.

Hi Hart,
I was looking for a solution to publish tweets from my posts to different accounts according the category of the post. After 3 days lokking for a solution you save my life.
The feedburner socialize tool does exactly what I need, without plugins and configurations or hardcode.
