Schedule Downtime Maintenance has been complete .. and we’re still here~

My host provider has been reminding me this week that there is a planned outage of part of certain accounts including my Dedicated Service Hosting Plan.

At about 1:00am Saturday Morning December 8, 2007 (which is about 50minutes from now) 100% of all the sites of the HART-Empire Network will be unavailable while routine maintenance is performed.

My sites should be down at least an hour - and, if it’s more .. it’s not my fault! They suggested that all it will take is 45 minutes, but give it an hour just in case!

I am in the process of consolidation of the HART-Empire Network, to coincide with my 2nd year anniversary as a network of blogs and sites around October 17th ..

Basically, I am relocating separate blogs on separate domains to separate subdomains of a single domain.

Sorry .. but, I will have to take all sites offline - again! But, it won’t be long.

PS> I figured out that my server was crashing every morning at 3am due to some hefty cron jobs and automated wordpress backups being scheduled to happen around that time, and was creating problems. I have spread these cron jobs apart this morning, and will be adding another 1GB RAM memory to the dedicated server to help keep things be healthy.

That’s the “Good News”.

I wouldn’t say that there is “Bad News” .. but, it sure is taking a long time to migrate all the accounts. While I can confirm that all the accounts have been moved from my ISP#1 and ISP#2 over to my new ISP#3 … not all of them are active. Generally, I’m doing it in my spare time and making sure things work. I’m also upgrading each site to wordpress version 2.2 (using the InstantUpgrade plugin) and upgrading a few plugins to the latest version.

I’m also documenting what I am doing, and will create some sort of series of posts in this blog .. The experience, tips and learning curves that I have been faced with is valuable information i.m.o. and worth passing along to other people with growing pains, and doesn’t necessary have an arsenal of venture capital or support staff backing you!

Rather than posting a lot of little news updates or one-liners like some twitheads do, I will just be updating this post for all my news related to the moving of my accounts from my ISP#1 (Mega Account) and ISP#2 (Reseller Account) to the new ISP#3 (Pro-Phase Account). Latest news is on top .. just like it would show up in a blog ~

There is progress and I recognize the intent - but I had a few questions during the day with no responses. Until about 9:30pm Hello, Im sorry for the long delay in response and completions. there were some issues that prevented us from completing a few migrations not just yours but it is resolved and I am currently working on your migration and will notify you when complete. Once again I am so sorry for the delay in response (totally unacceptable) and the delay in completion.

Backup has now physically started and I think I created a new issue for delay. One of the accounts on ISP#2 that is being transferred .. conflicts with an account name on ISP#1.. ISP#2 (the backup being moved today) needs to be changed and renamed or it might create problems in the future.

Once all backups are made on ISP#2 I’ll post entries on the blogs once again and then change Nameservers. Once the switch kicks in I’ll have a lot of blogging to do!

If you didn’t know this .. offline I am an accountant, bookkeeper and income tax preparer (besides “consultant and blogger and pet owner” titles) .. and here in Canada, personal income tax returns (T1) are due April 30th. That is, of course, unless one is self-employed .. then the deadline to file a return is June 15th, but payment is due by April 30th. Corporation income tax returns (T2) are due six months after the year end, although payment is usually due by the end of the third or second month following the company’s year end (depending on circumstances).

As I look at my TO DO LIST … it would seem that I’ve got 87 items in my “To Do” list to be completed before April 30th .. and every day new items are being added! The biggest problem is NOT the actual work or workload .. it’s the scheduling of the meetings and getting the work out of my (home) office and out to the client!
