Attempts to hack me continue

Every day .. someone is trying to hack into the dedicated server and my PetLvr blog .. but, so far security features and anti-spam control has blocked everything and will continue to do so (I hope and have to believe that). This is really evident in my daily LogWatch reports - because I see at least one IP trying to ‘brute force’ a login into the root of the dedicated server. Now, most of this stuff is automated (I’m told) and sometimes scripts or bots jump around trying to locate unsecure networks or gain access. So far, I get IP addresses attempting this in the 2,000 to 50,000 attempt ranges per day (as seen on previous post about the moderation). At the end of the day, we add the new IP to the banned list and another day goes by until the next Logwatch report.

I hope this evil person will give up one day, and move on to somewhere else.

* I have upgraded from wordpress version 2.0.4 to wordpress version 2.1

I have successfully updated the PetLvr.com/blog/ last night to the latest version of Wordpress. There were some issues, because prior to installation I had 58 activated plugins. I was hoping to reduce it down to about 20-25 activated plugins, but I’ve noticed that it was just easier to re-activate the ones that I wasn’t sure about - than remove the code from the templates.

So .. there are still 41 activated plugins .. but, I intend to remove them one by one over time as I go along. I first want to be sure that there is nothing wrong with the existing lot of activated plugins.

I’ve written before my situation with the dual host providers .. well .. upon renewal of Host Service Provider #1 last June/July .. I was ready to walk away .. until they “pulled .. me .. back .. in” (imagine some impersonation there).

What that resulted, was half price, double space, more features (somehow) .. and a Migration to perform the upgrade.

The account went into effect immediately .. although, it wasn’t until I started USING the extra space that I actually had to pass along an email asking WTF because I wasn’t allotted the space at that time. Today the actual moving and migration took place.

PRELUDE

The first blog that I created is the PetLvr.com/blog/ … It was created (if memory serves me correctly, on version 1.12 of Wordpress. I have updated it three times in the past … first to the next version 1.13 and then the more stable version 1.5. It was upgraded after a few bugs were fixed to the version 1.5.2 and has been this version since summer of 2005.

Well, as with all new blogs that I am adding to our HART-Empire Network .. I will have created them with the newest version 2 software. The latest version is now 2.0.4.

My “host service provider #1″ had offered me a deal to keep me as a customer and I accepted .. for this upcoming year.

I was in the process of moving 100% from my Blacksun.ca (host service provider #1) mega account to my Ace-Host.net (host service provider #2) reseller account yesterday morning … because I feel that Blacksun.ca screwed me royally last year - in an an attempt to recoup monies made from a ‘bad deal’ one of their sales rep made with me.

What happened, is that two years ago .. I had many accounts with them and a sales rep negotiated a way to increase the size and bandwidth by consolidating all accounts into a mega-site (my PetLvr.com site). Immediately after, they fired that sales rep and squeezed more money out of me to accomodate my extra domain pointers and domain aliases that I needed. Last year, when it came time for renewal - I honestly thought that I would just pay what I did the previous year .. (the initial and the bump-up) - but instead, they held me hostage and forced me to pay almost double the price.

I am currently in negotiation and reorganization and downsize of accounts with my “host service provider #1″ … moving the majority of my accounts to my “host service provider #2″ .. this includes blogs, domains, websites, ecommerce sites, and a few other pages … not to mention a vast redudancy amount of Megabytes of data of pictures, videos and other stuff that I have been accumulating since I’ve first created a website in November 1995.

Some may have experienced some downtimes as domains, data and MySQL databases are being moved .. beginning July 16, 2006. All should be well before the end of the week. The affected domains are as follows:
