If you didn’t know this .. offline I am an accountant, bookkeeper and income tax preparer (besides “consultant and blogger and pet owner” titles) .. and here in Canada, personal income tax returns (T1) are due April 30th. That is, of course, unless one is self-employed .. then the deadline to file a return is June 15th, but payment is due by April 30th. Corporation income tax returns (T2) are due six months after the year end, although payment is usually due by the end of the third or second month following the company’s year end (depending on circumstances).

As I look at my TO DO LIST … it would seem that I’ve got 87 items in my “To Do” list to be completed before April 30th .. and every day new items are being added! The biggest problem is NOT the actual work or workload .. it’s the scheduling of the meetings and getting the work out of my (home) office and out to the client!

As I look on my Pre-posting Schedule of Blog entries that I have coming due this week .. I suddenly realize that I have ABSOLUTELY NO PRESCHEDULED POSTS available for the next 10 days!

Quite honestly, this is just too time consuming for me to catch up with the postings for the remainding month of April, so I’m officially on SLOWDOWN NOTICE – TEMPORARILY – UNTIL MAY 1, 2007.

Although I may or may not be posting periodically during this time on PetLvr.com/blog/ or 1800HART.com/blog/ these will strictly be for “instant blogging” reasons such as “income tax news” or “if I don’t post it now it well get lost in my email” reasons or my weekly “fat blogging summaries”.

Unfortunately, I can’t quit “my day job” yet from blogging 😀 … so, I just HAVE to concentrate on my “Meat and Gravy” .. which is accounting and income tax.

But my blogs do not have to be deadspace …

If anybody is interested in GUEST POSTING articles in ANY of my blogs in my sidebar ON ANY TOPIC, please contact me at …. hart (at) PetLvr (dot) com ..

    Just provide me the following:

    * Let me know which blog you would like to guest author for
    * Please provide a write-up about yourself to describe you to my readers
    * Don’t forget to include resource line for end of article to promote your site or product/links!

I figure .. it never hurts to ask, right? Anybody interested?

    Thanks!

I don’t get it. This was an article from EzineArticles.com .. I don’t know why they have to scrape my RSS feed. Articles are free for the taking over there! If it wasn’t for the actual Feedvertising “Advertisement” at the end of the feed, which mentioned HART-Empire Network II .. no one would ever notice. There certainly wasn’t any link or reference back to PetLvr blog

Shame on you Statystyki with Google Adsense account pub-3490696088974170 .. geez you must be raking in the moolah!

I swear .. I’ve been seeing more and more crap in my spam comments, my spam registrations, my spam moderated comments, even in my Bloglines and Google Alerts .. It must be true!
Poland – Home to some of the finest SEO spam (.pl) …

Meanwhile – I’ve DISABLED the Advertising for Dollars option with the Feedvertising on all my sites with Text-Link-Ads .. Basically, I was able to have up to 6 RSS feed ads, but no one wants to advertise on my feeds.

So – instead .. I have set them all to just one sponsored link .. sponsored by yours truly (HBS Management Consultants) … and yes – you will probably be seeing it everywhere in my RSS feeds on all my sites from now until Summer. It will look like this:

Sponsor: Raise Capital in 90 Days Online – Now! – Learn How This Works .. Bedzzz Inn, Inc Raised $92,867 with this system!

Now I’ve got a new entry for my Google Alerts .. and I’m watching you Scapers! You can rename my titles, but if you can’t get rid of my RSS Feedvertisement .. at least now I will know who you are!

    * Oh .. that’s nice.

Although, it’s an aggregation of all our pages so, looking at our traffic individually on a blog by blog basis would be more meaningful. And, although we’ve manage to receive more than 1,000 page views on a single day before .. we haven’t been able to maintain it for 7 straight days since last February 2006 (before the Technorati Incident).

All the stats for our blogs are public, and can be viewed by clicking on the individual sitemeter button at the bottom of the blog, or the network sitemeter button below the network code in our sidebars.

I think this is pretty good, for I know that we have been slowing down with the posting and promotion of this network of sites in these recent months (and probably April and May as well). I wasn’t sure about Easter Sunday .. but, we just nicked it with 1,000 page views!

    * I was thinking that by the summer .. this annual graph view will start to look .. coooool .. At least, I hope the trend continues – going up!

    * I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now … How would this look?

IMAGINE THIS TO BE POST ONE OF SOME SORT

It’s no secret that pictures makes the blog more interesting and catches people’s eyes when scanning through their RSS Feed Reader of choice, or just following the links! I’ve been thinking of doing this more often, but quite honestly – you have to have the time to do this – and I don’t! So, I don’t really bother to include pictures on every post. But, now that I think about it, all I really need is two pictures .. and I can embed the picture directly into the index.php file of the template!

IMAGINE THIS TO BE POST TWO OF SOME SORT

Of course, that’s just hearsay, because I don’t know how I would actually go about to do this – however, if I were to do this? I’d probably use the same image for the author (like this site is using) but create a mirror image that alternates between posts to mix it up – something like this example! And, it is just an example – I’ve alternated it to both to be on the right side alignment, but it could be both left alignments, or even alternating left and right… Hmmm

It’s no secret that I monetize all of my sites .. although, it might be a secret that I’ve created a new page trying to sort out these options in one location .. over here:

This sounds like a good idea – for sites like a PetLvr or 1800HART where, I’ve been lucky to sell a majority of spots for sponsorship advertising. It might give opportunities for additional advertising on the sites that I seem to be getting a lot of traffic .. like posts on the PetLvr Top Post page ..

So .. what is the problem?

Well, my other sites aren’t doing that well .. and I haven’t really taken the time to actually CREATE a top posts page, so advertisers couldn’t possibly know what posts are really popular! Ah – if only there were so many hours in the day!

But – then I realized – I don’t even HAVE “TLA” plugins installed on my sites .. except for a few that been accepted for FEEDVERTISING – which, I have yet to entice anybody to want to advertise in my feeds as at this point in time. The rest have that initial code from the early days that take up half the sidebar.php template file. Yes – it’s worth it to upgrade, …

So – I logged into TLA and started to download these Plugins!

If you are unfamiliar with TLA plugins, what you have to do is create a unique plugin unique to every unique blog that you have. You can tailor the code to fit your site with respect to the colors, the size of font or even tell the code to match the font of your own blog’s css stylesheet.

The problem with this is that I’ve got over 40 blogs and currently, I’m approved for 19 sites with text-link-ads advertising. This means that I have to create and download 19 different and unique plugins and install them – carefully – into the right blogs and make sure that the code of the plugin is really the code for the plugin of text link ads that peoplea are advertising that will eventually end up on my sites!

Throughout the process, except for the front page where you “Install Ad Code” .. there is no reminder what site you are updating your plugin for. It can get quite confusing.

Fortunately, I am a “systems” guy and have created a simple system for myself to keep track .. I have documented the .php filenames in my AZZCardfile Notepad for each accepted site and decided to create and download all of the necessary plugin files into one central location. Then, once I upload via FTP to each of the appropriate plugin folders online .. I will double check to make sure that the plugin is activated and the code properly placed in the sidebars of my blogs.

At the moment – I have downloaded all 19 unique plugin versions and modified only 4 of them – and this took me 1-1/4 hours to do that. I’m beat! I’m busy! So, I’ve just decided to do this at my own leisure and then BOLD the filename to remind me that I’ve done this.

All in all .. I think Text-Link-Ads are a great tool for getting your site out there .. and nice for sites like us little guys who do not have millions of impressions per month. In fact, I have recently started to placing one TLA ad back in January for my PetLvr site. On April 2 I increased my inventory and started to spend a little more from the proceeds of sites sponsoring on my own sites … and I’m seeing an improvement in traffic. If it wasn’t for this past EASTER SUNDAY .. this was the first time *ever* that this network as whole maintained 6 out of 7 days over 1000 page views per day. I know, that’s not much to many of you .. and for the rest – it’s not that much for one site, because it’s not for one site – it’s for ALL sites that have the network code in the sidebar (click the green Sitemap green button under the code). And this is my slowest season where my time is concentrated offline!

Here’s the image – remember – this is just a few extra ads started April 2, 2007 .. and I haven’t been blogging that much!

PS: A Final Note About Advertising On My Sites

    * This is about advertising on my sites via Text-Link-Ads.com, Linkworth.com, or deals made personally with me ..

For 2007, I will be posting monthly “THANK-YOU” posts to all the advertisers from the previous month listed as at month end. I’m giving a permanent link in the particular blog that everybody advertises on, that is remaining on my site on the last day of each month. I know it’s hard out there trying to figure out where to spend your advertising dollars .. and well .. that’s my THANKS for considering the HART-Empire Network.

However, I should say that because of the way I am aggregating the feeds of each channel – this is in fact – everybody advertising on one of my blogs each month will get THREE (3) permanent links on my sites .. not just one permanent link:

    1) On the blog advertised, naturally!
    2) On HART-Network.com aggregation of the whole network
    3) On the channel aggregation e.g. HART-EMPIRE.com sponsors also on hart-network.com/small-business/ that aggregates only the specific channel that the blog belongs to, according to the network code in each sidebar

For what it’s worth. I hope it’s an added incentive, but I’m happy to do that anyway.

    * Dane Carlson’s Business Opportunities Weblog

Actually, I can’t remember what this site looked like before – but, it is the site where that “How Much Is My Blog Worth” project is. I am a subscriber in my Bloglines.com and surprisingly browse the articles at least once weekly, but I must say that I don’t recall any new design being introduced .. (or am I wrong?)

I like the new logo and this site lools really clean. I like the color choices, meaning that the screen wide top header fits and matches that bar above the actual logo and content section. The text size and color of the permalinks works well with me too – that I can recognize it! It almost looks … magazine’ish?

As a side note, Dane also places the recent comments inbetween the first and second post – which is odd, because it’s usually seen in the sidebars. It kind of makes you scroll down the page even more – if you scrolled down past the fold in the first place.
